About Me
Values
Hello! Thanks for wanting to read about me! I have been designing games from a very young age. It all began with drawing mazes in Kindergarten. From then, I moved onto creating games on paper for my friends to play. I can still remember the pure joy of watching them play my games with smiles on their faces!Since then, my everyday has been about games. Everywhere I go, I see things in the world around me that inspires me to create. To me, games can be many things:
A way to bring people together.
An interactive medium to express art.
An engaging way to live an experience.
A powerful storytelling tool.
...or even just a fun time.
At the end of the day, games are my greatest love. I love crafting unforgettable experiences that can leave lasting impacts players' lives.
Life and Hobbies
I was born and raised in Wichita, KS. I love spending time in the outdoors. You'd be surprised how many great hiking trails are in Kansas! Growing up, I was a Boy Scout and would go on monthly adventures across the country. From unguided spelunking to running a bartering stand, I have a wide range of experiences from this that I draw from for inspiration in my design. Besides the outdoors, I used to play in a county soccer league. From this, I learned how to operate in a team and experienced the thrill of competition! I love honest and friendly competition, as it inspires me to work hard. I'm sure it comes to no surprise, but I love gaming. Some of my favorite games/series include Mario 3D platformers, Luigi's Mansion 3, Ace Attorney series, Hollow Knight, Metroid series, Terraria, Plants vs. Zombies 1, Undertale, Paper Mario, and Pokemon. Really though, I could go on and on about any game. I love trying a wide variety of games to see what good designs are out there.
Education
I began self study during my final year of middle school. Back then, I used a clunky old laptop that could only run an engine called Clickteam Fusion. It used visual scripting, which I used to create my first game projects. They were bad... but that's to be expected. Looking back though, I am proud of my progress as an early learner and it gave me a great head start. I used this software throughout high school, until I was able to afford a laptop that could run something bigger. My next engine was Unity. I used Unity throughout my final year of highschool, and my first two years at Butler Community College. This was the era where I really started to dial in and become serious about creating games. I learned C# Scripting and created several games using the engine. I was working 46 hour weeks on third shift during this time, so my learning was limited. During this time, I saved up enough money to pursue a more formal education. My last two years of college I transferred to Wichita State University where I would begin my actual game design classes. During these last two years, I really hit my stride. I started working less, and devoted my time to being a student. I learned Unreal Engine and quickly became one of the most adapt in the engine at my university. I began more seriously studying game design theory, and picked up several books about the topic which I read through over the years.
